Nicolet Releases Debate Invitation

September 6, 2007 – 2:21 pm by: Nick Bubb

Jason Chapman, head coach and tournament director for the Nicolet Debate Tournament (affectionately nicknamed “The NDT”), has released the invitation for his tournament later this year. The text of that invitation may be found below:

Dear Coaches:

As we prepare for another year of exciting competition, we would like to invite you to attend the first annual Nicolet High School Debate Tournament & Friday Festival. We anticipate a tournament filled with high level competition, unique learning opportunities, and excellent hospitality.

On Friday, September 28th, Nicolet will offer a two round festival. Middle School, Novice, and Open division participants will be given extended instructional critiques after the round. Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas debate will both enjoy a full tournament on Friday night as Varsity Policy debaters begin the first of their preliminary rounds. Festival awards will include a ribbon for all participants; PF and LD will include 1st-3rd place trophies.

On Saturday, September 29th, a full tournament will be offered in all divisions: Novice Policy, Junior Varsity Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, and Public Forum; Varsity Policy debaters will continue their rounds. On Saturday, all divisions will break to elimination rounds. For JV and Novice Policy, this will include a Final & Consolation round. All other divisions will break to Semis or a Final & Consolation round depending on entries. Awards in all divisions will include 1st-4th place team awards; 1st-3rd place speaker awards will be given in all Policy categories.

All divisions, including all Policy Debate, will be Switch-Side both days except in Middle School at the Friday Festival. All Novice rounds will adhere to the WDCA Novice Limited Topic Areas and restrictions. Resolutions in all divisions will be based on the appropriate NFL resolution available at www.wdca.org. Policy rounds will each have 8 minutes of preparation time; LD will have 4 minutes; and PF, 2 minutes.

Schools are obligated to provide 1 qualified judge per 1.5 entries in each division (a school with two Policy Debate teams and three Public Forum teams, must bring one Policy judge and two Public Forum judges).

Entries are due by September 21st by e-mail or September 20th by fax.

  2. Bill and Nick,

I just wanted to let you know that I have listed Wisconsin Forensics Daily on the impromptu Colloquy Forums/Blogs Directory:

    http://www.trinitybriefs.com/cq/blog/?page_id=5

That said, I hope you will consider adding Colloquy (http://www.trinitybriefs.com/cq/) — an online directory of links related to high school forensics — to the blogroll at Wisconsin Forensics Daily.
