TOC stays in Wisconsin

June 16, 2008 – 8:38 am by: Nick Bubb

Marquette’s annual Hilltopper Classic was re-newed as National Tournament of Champions qualifier at the final round level for policy debate. Last year’s Hilltopper Classic awarded bids to teams from Glenbrook South and Bellarmine, CA. This year’s tournament promises to be better and much improved from last year. More information will be available as we get closer to the tournament. The National Tournament of Champions is yearly tournament held on the University of Kentucky campus, where debaters qualify by receiving bids to the tournament.

Hopefully some one in Vegas will be providing live coverage of NFL Nationals (The competition begins today at roughly 10am central time). Cough. Bill. Cough. Voss. Cough. Scheffler. Cough. Traas.

Please?

  2. The Milwaukee City Hall/Rufus King Congress has a TOC bid, too. It would be nice to have this be a supersession break, so we may look at moving it to Jan. 23-24.

  3. That’s excellent. I’m sorry I missed this information from the Victory Briefs post. Is this the first time that WI will have a congress bid, aside from the state tournament/nfl qualifiers leg that every state/district is granted?

  4. Yes, unless you count the precursor “CTOC” out of Ft. Lauderdale, which was similar to the Extemp TOC out of Northwestern University. The Rufus King/City Hall Congress did have a qualifying bid to that event in its last year.

I honestly did not advocate having a bid at my own meet — it was a kind gesture of the other Congress advisory committee members, who want to grow the event in the Midwest. They observed that several students from Wisconsin have been successful over the years at CFL and NFL nationals, so it’s fitting to have a meet that’s supervised by a TOC advisory committee member.
