Weekend Open Thread: Hortonville and West Bend

Competition begins this afternoon in Hortonville as the Polar Bears host their annual debate tournament. Meanwhile, the West Bend Debate Invitational will take place on Saturday. Feel free to use this thread to post updates from either tournament. We are also still looking for results from Merrill, so please email Nick or I if you are able to help.

Live From Nicolet: Sheboygan North KM Wins Varsity Policy

The Nicolet Debate Tournament came to a close on Saturday evening at around 8:30PM as Tournament Director Jason Chapman announced the champions. In the final round, Tim Knoedler and Laurel Mills of Sheboygan North debated Rauvin Johl and Val McIntosh of Brookfield Central. The panel of Tyler Jackson, Ben Schultz, and Bill Batterman voted unanimously for the negative from Sheboygan North.

Congratulations to Tim and Laurel and their coach, Jon Voss.

After five preliminary rounds, the top four teams in Varsity Policy debate advanced to the semifinal round.

Following round five, the top two teams will clear to finals with the third and fourth seeds advancing to a consolation round; all four teams in the elimination rounds will qualify for the Wisconsin State Debate Tournament.

Live From Nicolet: Day Two Begins

Reporting live from the Nicolet Debate Tournament in Glendale, Wisconsin Forensics Daily is proud to announce that day two has gotten underway on-time and without a hitch thanks to Tim Scheffler of Madison Memorial’s tabulation expertise. On Friday night, a festival was held in Novice and Open Policy Debate and Lincoln-Douglas Debate while Varsity Policy Debate held its first two rounds. Today, competition is being held in Novice and Junior Varsity Policy Debate and Public Forum Debate while the Varsity Policy tournament continues from last night.

The pairings for round three of Varsity Policy Debate are as follows:

Glenbrook South and Bellarmine Earn TOC Bids at the Hilltopper Classic

After a grueling two days of intense competition, two teams remained standing in Varsity Policy at the Hilltopper Classic. In the semifinals, Georgi Dimitrov and Carl Rice of Bellarmine College Prep (”Panda” for the Hilltopper Classic) defeated Lee Reed III and John Trevino of Walter Payton College Prep while David Han and Mara Koulogeorge of Glenbrook South prevailed over Maine East’s Beth Kloser and Kathy Ku. The two teams agreed to hold the final round at a later date, most likely at the University of California-Berkeley tournament.
